Ive fractured my spine and have been in so much pain and the subutex isnt touching this pain so my doctor gave me a prescription for 20mg oxycotin 2xper day. I left his office without asking him the most important question "how long to I wait before taking it"? Now he is on vacation and I cant get in touch with him for 2 weeks. Does anyone know?

Hey Girl, sorry about your injury. You didn't list how much subutex you were on, so, I will try to hazard some guessing for you. If you are on a high dose like 16 mgs, it may be 3 to 5 days before you truly feel the oxy, if you are on 8, 2 to 4 days, if you are on less than that, 1 to 3 days. These are approximates. You can take your oxy even while the subutex is in your system, but it probably won't do much until the subutex leaves the receptor sites in your brain. Do NOT take more oxy trying to get it to work, it won't until those sites are vacant enough for the opiate in the oxy to work. Take a small amount of the oxy ( follow doctors orders) and it will eventually work.
