My son was just put on Ritalin LA 20mg. He is 7 1/2 yrs old and weighs 65lbs. He has been on it for 10 days now and I'm not seeing any real improvement. He is a little more mellow, but still can't focus and retain school information. Is the dosage enough for his weight? And, is there something else I could ask the doctor to try that might be more effective?

Hello MOM OF BOY. He might need an adjudtment, but I;d wait a bit, in as much as hes only been on it for ten days. If you believe that the Ritalin is not working the way you like, meaning seeing noticeable changes, you might ask his doctor about Focalin, its a drug very similiar in some ways to Ritalin, but has shown to have different results, sometimes more so than Ritalin.
