I currently am scheduled to have major surgery. I was on Methadone for several years before Suboxone. I thought I wasnt ever going to need to take pain meds again but they say that the Suboxone will not be sufficient enough to handle the post-op pain. Time is creeping up and i know i need to stop, but how long? What's the minimum amount of time I dont want to get sick or even stop breathing!! :(

I really dont think going back to the hydrocodone would be best since you have tried so hard to stay away from it and i applaud you for this cause it truely is hard to stay away. Because methadone and suboxone is already an opiate just in a lesser form i dont think it will cause to much harm. As soon as the pain is less i would go back to the suboxone a.s.a.p. While you do have to take the hydrocodone though try to take it in as little a quantity as possible so you wont become dependent on it again. I hope this helped you a little michelle.

SUBOXONE HAS A Half-life of 24 hrs which means if you take 8mgs, then 24hrs later you will have half that(4mgs) and so forth every 24 hrs. You can take hydrocodone anytime while taking suboxone as far as i know u just won't be able to feel it until and I'm guessing at least 72 hrs... seeing as how that is how long it takes to get out of your system. Although This will probably vary depending on how much and how long you have been taking the suboxone. I hardly ever take it... for example I took 1 tab suboxone about 4pm yesterday and took and opana 15 at 5pm today(round about 12 hrs) and i definitley feel it but, i don't take suboxone all the time either. Everyone is different though and it will vary... don't be shy and ask ur doctor. Most of the time your doc will be cool as hell if you are just straight up with him/her and don't bullshit cuz believe me doctors are trained to spot bullshitters... lol. Hope this helps you...
