My mother took Amiodarone for a few months since Feb. and she was taken off of it due to the side effects (tremor, hair and weight loss). She was given two options, Multaq and tikosyn. She does not want to be admitted into the hospital (too frightened) for the tikosyn and the multaq can be taken at home. Could you give me the pros and cons of these two medicaction?

Dronedarone is an antiarrhythmic medication that affects the rhythm of heartbeats.
Dronedarone is used to help keep the heart beating normally in people with life-threatening heart rhythm disorders of the atrium (the upper chambers of the heart that allow blood to flow into the heart). Dronedarone is used to treat atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter.
Benefits
Multaq offers a safe antiarrhythmic that has efficacy in treating atrial fibrillation and can be initiated as an outpatient. The unique benefit is that this medication was demonstrated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular hospitalization in patients with paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter and associated cardiovascular risk factors. This is the first antiarrhythmic drug to demonstrate this kind of benefit in AF patients.

What are the possible side effects of dofetilide (Tikosyn)?
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Benefits
Though this medication often gives great benefits to people with irregular heartbeat, it may infrequently cause a serious new irregular heartbeat. Therefore, when starting, restarting, or increasing your dose with this drug, your doctor will recommend that you stay in the hospital for at least 3 days for proper monitoring. Before your doctor can prescribe this medication for you, your doctor must have completed the Tikosyn.-
You are right about the hospital stay, of course she is afraid it sounds more serious , dangerous---
