What would the difference between percocet 10 and oxycontin 10 be? I know the oxycontin is extended release, but which one would be the "stronger" of the 2, or the most potent... what about their durations, how long does each last? And how much of the oxycodone is released in what amount of time with the contin? Would it be like 5 mg released right away and then another 5 mg released 6hrs later or what? I know some people take 80mg + of oxy at one time b/c they are used to it, but I have never taken more than about 5mg (10mg a few times) at once in tylox form, so I'm worried how strong the oxycontin 10 will be...thanks...
How does the release time work with Percocet and Oxycontin?

They are both oxycodone, its just how its prepared. Percocet is for short term relief (4-6 hrs) And usually you won't see any doses of perocet / oxycodone IR(immediate release) larger than 15mg. You are fairly correct in how oxycontin is released into your bloodstream. As far as potency goes, from my personal experience I find oxycodone IR or percocet better for pain relief than oxycontin, but I haven't taken higher end doses of oxycontin. But if you take oxycontin incorrectly (crushed or chewed) its effect will be much stronger than percocet/oxy IR but will only last 4-6 hours. 10mg of oxycontin will have a stronger "high" than 10mg of oxy IR. But there is no good reason to chew oxycontin from a medical standpoint and I wouldn't advise it. If you take an oxycontin 10mg properly you should be fine.
Hope that helps answer your question.
the oxycontin is stronger than the perc. perc 10s have more filler than the oxy(more acetimenophen) im not sure how the time release works but if you're not in severe pain and teh percocet is working i would stick with those, or even check out the non narcotic pain killers. the withdrawl from both the percocet and especiallyh the oxy is excruciating. i would suggest researching alternative pain management!
first of all both drugs are from the oxycodone family percocet is not time release as far as i know roxicodone goes up to 30 mg and it is IR the oxycontin has a coating on it which enables it to release med in your body for long periods of time also oxycontin does not has the tylenol in it as the percocet does You should not take more than 2000 mg of tylenol daily as far as i know the perc 10/325 has the smallest dosage of tylenol so also beware of taking so much percocet because it can lead to liver disease
First of all, everyone who just answered that question is talking out there ass, no offense to those that were trying to help but let me give you the real facts. as you already know, oxycontin is short for oxycodone continuous. yes it is a time released pill that lasts 8-12 hours. the pill itself is compressed with general filling ingredients except for one, theres wax inside the pill which is mixed tightly with the oxycodone. on some of the higher milligram pills, they have a waxy coating on the outside of the pill, IT IS FOR IDENTIFICATION PURPOSES ONLY. alot of people believe its the time release coating and by scratching it off it will make the pill IR. but its bullshit. anyways your body digests the pill and its slowly released into your body at an 1/8 of the pills milligram every hour. leaving you 8 hours of continuous pain relief. every 4 hours of oxycodone metabalization, leaves you a 2 hour half life. ussually only works if your opiate nieve. but thats why percocet says take 1-2 by mouth every 4-6 hours as needed for pain. if you want the best high off of oxycontin, just take and extra dose. dont crush or chew or sniff or smoke or whatever. opiates and opioids are medically give orally and intraveneously, but oxycontin 10mg is not stronger than percocet 10mg. no matter how u use it. oxycontin is dangerous because its a strong narcotic and if your opiate nieve, then you might have some problems if you take 1 to many because of the continuous release of oxy. but percocet is even more dangerous because it has the same dangerous narcotic but is also sharing the pill with 325 of tylenol, some percocets have 650 milligrams but is rarely prescribed. just be careful, i love pain killers, if you ever need to know anything about any narcotic pain killer, send me a message. i am a walking PDR on narcotic pain relievers. Try Roxicodone 15mg or 30mg. theyre great for getting a narcotic buzz but not as dangerous and perc and oxycontin.
