The alprazolam should work within an hour but has a short half life and the anxiety tends to rebound back. If it is prescribed 3 times a day it is usually effective, problem is the half life and the addictive properties of it and you can experience precipratory anxiety before next dose. They make time release to help with this now and alprazolam should never be stopped abrubtly and like psychmajor says the same with citolapram,,do not stop suddenly if you been on it for more than 2 weeks and it can take a couple of weeks for it to work. Alot of times doctors will prescribe a small dose of a benzo with it until it kicks in. Good Luck.
