Speaking from my own personal experience when I was initally diagnosed for my severe OCD they put me on celexa and then leparxo and I found neither worked for me everyone is different and obviously in how they react to medicine. But what I felt was my life save was Luvox if you read label on it Luvox it says it is really specifically for the treament of OCD:
Why is this medication prescribed?
Fluvoxamine is used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (bothersome thoughts that won't go away and the need to perform certain actions over and over) and social anxiety disorder (extreme fear of interacting with others or performing in front of others that interferes with normal life). Fluvoxamine is in a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)
I hope this helps. Take care if you need to talk I am here and I am a long time suffer and I feel that I have gotten extremely better with this disease between years of meds and therapy.

Celexa acts on a certain brain chemical called serotonin. It prevents the receptors on the brain cells from picking up the chemical thus keeping it in the synapse longer. Hence it is in the class of antidepressants called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). Anyway, the recommended maximum dose is 40 mgs. In fact the literature points out the following:
Although certain patients may require a dose of 60 mg/day, the only study pertinent to dose response for effectiveness did not demonstrate an advantage for the 60 mg/day dose over the 40 mg/day dose; doses above 40 mg are therefore not ordinarily recommended.
Good luck with the new med and remember it can take a month or so to reach maximum effectiveness.

Hello alp57. Excellent answers. Just curious, how much less your compulsions and or rituals are. I was on celexa, and didn't find any real progress, so I stopped it, another reason being that it also left me feeling worn out, generally tired. But this is about you, and thats good news. always nice to hear when things are going ones way.best of wishes.

Do not increase without your doctor's approval. All drugs have a dose that is optimum. Any amount beyond that may be toxic or you may become tolerant to the effects. It seems like your OCD is interferring with your judgment - tell your doctor you have a "need" to take more though you believe it is working really well. If the doctor knows you may take more than needed, she/he can make sure you don't get an early Rx. If you need help controlling how much you take, have a family member or friend help you comply.
