Even though I do not want to take these meds daily,(methadone, roxicodone, ms. Contin) my sickle cell prevents that. However I dont have pain everyday, when the pain does come its there for weeks at a time, and nothing can stop the pain once it starts if I dont have the meds already in my body. I am 32 and have been taking narcotic pain meds for 32 years. I want to live pain free, but I haven't been able to come up with any other option or alternative. Theres no cure for ssd because its an inherited blood disorder

I wish I had an answer for you. I really feel for your situation. But please don't stop taking your meds. Even on the days you're pain free. It may take a while to build up enough in your system for the meds to work again on the pain. The only thing I can do is wish you the best and hope your pain spells become farther apart. Good luck to you.

I think you are going to have to face the fact that you are in a small minority of people that is going to need to be on opiates for life.
Since you are tolerant |I would suggest you get on methadone and stay on it. It is the best pain killer for your type of pain and it is very cheap compared to the other opiates. It is almost impossible to become tolerant to methadone in fact I know people who have been on it daily for over 30 years and have come down a bit over the years. I rarely suggest this to anyone here but you are afflicted with a disease that is going to be with you until the day you die. In my eyes and most of the medical community you qualify for chronic opiate pain treatment. So talk to your doctor and tell him that methadone is cost effective for you and it will take care of your pain and it also won't hurt your orgins no matter how long you take it. Methadone has been one of the most studied drugs in the last 50 years..Good luck to you and don't feel bad that you need these meds to live your life as best you can, it is your right... Dave

I took pain meds for about 2 decades. I now have been sober for 7 months.I am still taking a medication so I do not go through withdrawl symptoms again. It is called: SUBOXONE it comes in a 8mg. pill that you put under your tounge and let it dissolve. It is amazing the things that I can do now that I never before even dreamed about, it is a much better life. Yes, I still live with a tremondous amount of pain each day but I'm not giving up. A good physical therapist helps a ton, but I've used up all my physical therapy that I can have for the year. Per my Insurance Company. That part sucks BIG time, but I plan on getting a massage on my whole body at least 2x's a month and I hope that will help pull me through. I did go through rehab for this but that part wasn't the hard part.
The hard part is living with the pain from cervical disc X4 herniations and lumbar disc X3 herniations plus right shoulder rotater surgery went bad, plus need hip replacement in both hips, plus have neuropathy in both feet. So yes, I hurt from the top all the way to the bottom. But if I can do it I firmly believe anyone can do it. Yes, you too can do it! Good Luck!
