I am going on vacation and have heard you can skip a period while on BC pills. Do I just take all 21 white "active" pills and not take the last 7 pills (2 green and 5 blue)? Is this safe to do? If so, should my period return to normal once I go through my next pack?

Yes. It is possible to skip a period by taking the first three weeks of active pills in your pack and miss the inactive placebo pills. Instead, you start the active pills in the next pack - you will have your period again the next time you take the pills in the placebo week.
It is however always a good idea to check with your healthcare provider as they know your medical history. There are also extended cycle birth control pills (such as Seasonale and Seasonique) available which are FDA approved and may be a more suitable alternative.
