Hey Dynamite,
BuSpar will help with the anxiety and irritability by affecting certain chemicals in the brain. It will reduce many of the physical symptoms that accompany the anxiety and panic attacks. It may make you dizzy or drowsy with a possible headache in the beginning but this should pass with continued use.
Best wishes,
Laurie

I have tried Buspar several times and I had no results at all. From what I know, if it works for you it should work very well, and if it doesn't you won't feel anything. If it does work, I don't think it will feel like a Benzo, so if you're waiting for a Benzo-like effect don't. I think it will just make your symptoms go away. Do give it several days, because of the people it has worked for, they love it. I hope you get good results with it.

I understand it isn't a benzo, but I assume it would make me feel calm and relaxed.
I would think so too, but not in the way the Benzos do. As I said, it didn't work for me, and I tried it at least 2 times with 2 different docs. I think I took it 2 days and then called the doc and complained I needed a Benzo. Usually they won't give me any, and I am forced to fend for myself. But Benzos are very hard to come by, even if you don't care who you get them from. They simply are not real popular amongst the "Get High" crowd. And then you can't always get the ones you feel work best. For example, in the 90's the only thing available was Valium, if I could even find that. And Valium is NOT the best Benzo for chronic anxiety. I prefer Ativan or Xanax. I use Ativan for anxiety when I need to stay awake, and I use Xanax if I have anxiety and it's time to go to sleep. But right now I have neither. My current doc will only give me 10 of the 1 mg tabs of Klonopin. What can I say to him.

Klonopin is better than nothing, but Ativan or Xanax are much better.
So I feel for you Dynamite. Give Buspar as long of a chance as you can, and if it doesn't help call your doc and tell him. He should know that Buspar is a very hit or miss med. If it works, it works great. If it doesn't, you feel nothing from it.
The answer Laurie gave you makes it sound like she has taken it and it worked for her. So why don't you ask her straight out if she took it with success. Then ask how long it took to work and what it felt like.
Good Luck.

It sounds like she just repeated the basic information I've read 100 times.
I'm not using a benzo because they are very addicting and I'd rather deal with the anxiety. Buspar seems to be working on and off, sometimes I feel alright, but most the time it's not effective.
