I have taken Ambien 10 mg for approx 6 weeks. Recently started taking Ambien 5 mg for about 1 week. Would like to stop this altogether. I feel I have become dependent on Ambien. One Pharmacist said that I should not be physically dependent on Ambien after 6 weeks, but might be psychologically dependent on it. I think I need it. But, If If don't take it, I don't fall asleep.
What;s the best way to get off of Ambien? Thank you.

Speaking from experience, after you step-down, you may need to go "cold turkey". It's very difficult not getting any sleep, but you need to rid your body of it for a few days. Drink plenty of fluids. Then maybe you could try something else. Perhaps melatonin - herbal remedy. Hope this helps.
