I cant stay awake in class and I have troubles even staying awake standing sometimes. I dont really understand because i get a full nights sleep every night. I cant even watch movies and i havent been able to for years with out falling asleep. Even if i am fully interested in something and it has my full attention i still cant manage to stay awake.

there could be any number of things that might be causing this possibly a disorder as Laurie mentioned as sleep apnea or some other physical problem that has just gone undetected as the underlying cause, it seems like it would be a good idea to pay a visit to your internist and just tell him what you have explained here, a month or so ago I had a lengthy illness and even though I am continually improving I noticed one thing that I was extremely tired and I still get that way but I think from what you describe it sounds like a totally different problem and it's treatment may not be so difficult once you find out the reason for this problem, it sounds like it has gone on long enough until you need some answers I wish I were of more help to you but the one thing that I wish for you is for you to be able to find the answer to the problem and hopefully things will return to normal. I wish you the very best

I think a sleep clinic/study is in order just like everyone else said. It could be sleep apnea or something else. I have a friend who is narcoleptic and has the EXACT same symptoms you do. It is not something she has lived with her whole life. She actually didn't have any problems untill her early thirty's so I think you need to get checked out. Good Luck-Alem

I was sleepy alot and it turn out to be my thyroid. I have hypothyroid. I would defenitely tell your doctor. Sounds like you need a few test. Could be anything, get it checked. I have to take Synthroid for my hypothyroid. Once it is balanced I am no longer tired. Good luck! Take care.

You may have a sleep disorder such as sleep apnea where the body doesn't get enough oxygen while sleeping at night because of obstructed air flow, thus causing you to be tired even after a full nights sleep. I recommend you talk to a sleep specialist. They can assess your symptoms and decide if a sleep study needs to be done. You can learn more about hypersomnia by going to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypersomnia
I have hypersomnia and take the medication Nuvigil. There is also the medication Provigil. Both of these medicines help to keep you awake during the day without serious side effects. Again, you would have to talk to a doctor to try one of these medications.
