Olmesartan Medoxomil is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents.
Valsartan is prescribed for: Hypertension, Heart Faliure & Post-Myocardial Infraction.

Heart Failure
Valsartan is indicated for the treatment of heart failure (NYHA class II-IV). In a controlled clinical trial, Valsartan significantly reduced hospitalizations for heart failure.
Post-Myocardial Infarction
In clinically stable patients with left ventricular failure or left ventricular dysfunction following myocardial infarction, Valsartan is indicated to reduce cardiovascular mortality.
Valsartan seems a med with multiple applications so perhaps the doc may have prescribed it assessing your medical conditions.
