Not all doctors are qualified to prescribe suboxone. You can go to the Suboxone.com website and use the doctor locator to find a certified doctor. I suspect if you have been off the oxy for a couple of months that you were repsonding to the opiate in the Suboxone, just be aware that it is addictive in the since that you will become dependent on it just like the methadone and when you want to stop you'll have to taper off slowly to avoid withdrawals.

Hey DD,
A lot of us have an illness that is treatable with the opiate in Suboxone. It's called Buprenorphine and it helps us with depression and other bad feelings. It makes us feel normal. There are Sub Doc's that will do Sub maintenance, and that's the kind you need. Some only want to use it as a detox drug, and other will keep you on it 6 - 12 months, but then want you off it. So when you call these Doc's ask if they do maintenance with Sub. I think most do, just ask because they are not cheap and you want to try and get the right Doc on your first try. Good Luck.

The other posters are dead right,I myself would describe the way it makes you feel a little differently though. I would say all it really does not allow you to not be dope sick, which in a way is kinda the way he described it,I just didn't really agree with the "makes you feel good" but as I think of it not being dope sick is about as good as you can feel without being "high". I've got friends who've been on suboxone & if your older the ones my friends went to had no prob.

Hi DumpsterDiver - You've gotten lots of information here. Just wanted to respond to the part in your question asking, 'Is Subox different than Methadone?' There are similarities in the withdrawal of the two, in that the symptoms tend to be more delayed than with the full agonist opiates. Buprenorphine is a partial agonist & typically takes longer to be fully excreted from the body, meaning the withdrawal is longer.
Also, I'm not judging, by any means, but noticed you said you were drinking beer with the Subox. Thought you may be interested in the trials that mix Subox with CNS depressants, such as alcohol & benzodiazepines/anti-anxiety meds: "Co-intoxication with ethanol (alcohol) carries the greatest risk for lethal overdose, with the lowest doses of a reported fatality in a 48 kg teenage girl with 5 mg of diazepam and the equivalent of 8 ounces of beer (1 unit of alcohol), plus around 2 mg of buprenorphine." That's not very much to cause a lethal combination, so please be careful. Jillian
Thank you so much for your caring, and being right. I have been internet surfing, and this espcially this Forum has alot of info... I am not sure I want Suboxone - I have an appt. with a metal hospital for an evaluation in 3 days,
and learn more.Yes, i need to get a handle on alcohol ASAP..
Good luck! I'll be sayin' a prayer for you. You'll be well equipped with a mental assessment to put some of the blocks in place and decide with your Dr. how to address the co-existing problems/conditions. Please get addiction counseling and try to go to 12 step mtgs. I am in recovery along with having bipolar I and ADHD. It all helps! Jillian
