hi LULUBOOP - I'm a new diabetic (4 months) and have been on Metformin about two months now. I take 500 mg with breakfast and 1500 mg with dinner. It has helped greatly - my levels are down to just about normal. I think the diabetes was really affecting me long before it showed up in my labs as I'm feeling much better now. Remember it may take some tweaking, and steady monitoring of your blood sugar levels to find the right balance for you. I've been afraid for many years about getting this disease (it runs in my family and I'm 300 pounds and have a big sweet tooth). So far it's been a blessing - I'm eating much better - still not perfect, I feel better than I have in a long time, and I've lost 25 pounds in 4 months. If I can do anymore to help just let me know. -
well thats great elizajane
what kind of things are we allowed to eat and not eat,
My local hospital ran a class that told me ALL about diabetes - I know several hospitals in my area have them. My primary care wrote a referral to the dietician and insurance paid for the class. I do know there are free classes offered by health departments, etc - check with the American Diabetes Association for one in your area. Primarily you need to avoid sweets and junk food - the combination of sugar and fat (particularly trans fat) is what makes things worse. I am on a combination of (small amounts) of lean protein, good carbs - grains, fresh fruit, etc. and a small amount of fat per meal. I have a hard time resisting the sweets and ice cream, but from testing my blood sugar I can really see how these items damage my body - it's incredible to see the rise in levels for a few days after binging on these. And everyday that those levels are high, damage is being done to my body. I feel a lot better now that my levels are under control.

YES I TAKE FOR SUGAR and so far its going up instead of down
Oh ok, Metformin would help you to bring your sugar levels down, if not then seek medical advice, now there are many meds which control sugar, by the way I take 2 shots of insulin to control my sugar levels.
Take care, best wishes!
And what kind of food are we not allowed
I take all kinds of food, avoid sugar in any form, please. Take care, best wishes!
