I want to know what side effects or any comments from anyone who has been prescribed this med?
I am currently taking 20mg prozac with 1mg xanax twice daily,my doc added this to my meds and i am a little weary of it?What way will it effect me.I was told to take it at night,i suffer from depression, anxiety and ocd,and i'm afraid it will make it worse.Does it work straight away or like anti d's take upto 4-6weeks.
Can Anyone share with me?Is it dangerous to take along with xanax,i dont trust mt physc,so any advice welcome.
Thank you in advance

Hi there puckiemull. Good to see you. Well, we both suffer from the same diagnosis. I was on seroquel, 300mg just as you are now going to be taking. I enjoyed being on it. Took it at bedtime, gave me the munchies big time. Gained some weight because of it. Stopped it only because of the cost factor. Aside from that, and the hunger pangs, nothing serious to report via side effects. I now in place of the seroquel, take remeron (mirtazapine) 90mg. Same results, helps me to sleep, but gives me snack attacks. you'll feel it working within a week in as much as the sedation effects. Theraputicly, to aid your depression will probably take three to four weeks. The norm. Its always anywhere in that ball park. No, in answer to the xanax and the seroquel, I don't believe that you need to worry. Xanax has a very fast/short halflife, and seroquel has a long halflife, you know, it will take days to leave your body, while the xanax will be a day or two at the most, leaving your system.

Hey puckiemull,
The Seroquell will help with sleep and anxiety as well as depression. It will make you groggy though particularly the XR so be prepared the next day after taking it at night. You are starting at a higher dose, so you may have to adjust the dosage. In fact, you may want to try a lower dose until you see how you respond. Like start at 100mgs the first night and work upto the 300mgs. You are ok to take with the xanax but may find you won't need as much xanax as the seroquell has a calming effect. Just don't stop the xanax cold turkey if you are use to taking daily though.
Good luck on the new med and let us know how you do,
Laurie
Thanks Laurie,
I thought the dose was high to start on myself but the tablets i got are 300mg,i cannot break them i presume because been xr so should i just take them near by bed time without xanax?Usually i would take the xanax going to bed to calm me so with this i will just take by itself? You know how i am with my physc, thats why hoping to get answers from you guys, thanks Laurie
You are right you can't break the pills because they are XR so yes I would take the 300mg without the xanax. How often and how much xanax are you use to taking? I don't want you to have ill effect from stopping the xanax.

Although I have experience with most of these meds, I'm not sure of any advice at the moment...
BUT I just wanted to comment and let you know that, although I understand how extremely difficult it can be to find a psychiatrist these days, I HIGHLY suggest proactively looking for a new one if you feel you cannot trust the current one treating you. Especially with mental disorders, having a doctor that you are unsure about can often just add to your anxiety and sometimes make symptoms worse. So I would suggest either you try finding a new one, OR make sure that your feelings about you current doctor are valid reasons to not trust their judgment with your treatment.
I wish you luck with your new medication situation and hope things work out well! If you'd like more ideas about how to handle the doctor situation, or would like to hear more about my situation, let me know! :)

Thank you for your response B,
I will give these meds a go and see how i get on,i dont trust my physc as he put me on other meds before at a high dose and i reacted badly to them, and when i explained this to him,he said my dose needed to be increased more for another month, which wasnt the case as it drove me to a near breakdown. He eventually took me off those meds, that is why i was questioning these new ones.I also cannot choose someone else to go see as he is the only physc in the public sector and unfortunately i cannot afford to go private.
Thank you again.
That is a bummer about your doctor, but I'm sure you'll be fine. It's good you're aware of this site so you can have a little more support though! Don't be afraid to ask your doctor about starting on lower doses or asking him any questions about anything! He's there to help you, and you have a right to know and understand why he's treating you the way he is. Unfortunately it may take a little more effort to get an answer from some doctors, but don't hold back! And if you think of questions after your visit, write them down for the next time OR write them down and call. It helps to have notes about that stuff so you don't get frustrated about forgetting to ask about something later. I used to do that all the time!
Anyway, I hope this new med combination works out for you :)
Good luck!

Oh pain in the a**! I just wrote a comment and the site timed out and lost it all! OK, i'll try to remember what i wrote... I know we have discussed seroquel before but i just wanted to add a few things. As the others have said, 300mg is a high dose to start on so if you find yourself feeling spaced/half asleep in the day, talk to your healthcare provider about lowering the dose. I am particularly sensitive to them. I was started on 200mg and then lowered to 150mg. I'm also on the extended release. I take them an hour before i go to bed. Unlike anti-depressants that i've tried, i found the seroquel worked much quicker, i found the benefits within a couple of weeks. I hope they work out for you : )
Thanks D.
I will see how it goes.
Thanks S H,
Did you have an episode after been on the meds a while or after taking your first tab?
It started after a few days. Good luck!

It is very hard to find a Dr. that will precribe medications for mental illnesses. They may give it to you up to three months, but after that they will strongly recommend for you to seek a Dr. that specializes in mental health issues. I have been seeing Psychiatrists for several years and as long as you keep your appointments and see a Counselor reqularly he will give you what you need. Many states have restricted Doctors on precribing control medications unless you comply with your Dr. If you comply a, Psychiatrist will go out of his/her way to work with you. Thanks for letting me share. By the way I have suffered from Panic Attacks ever since I can remember and recently have been disabled.I take Seroquel, Zantax,Celexa and Tramadol for pain.

Hello Puckiemull! It is nice to hear from you again! I started Seroquel awhile back but it did not work for me. I had some uncomfortable side effects. I felt like I was crawling out of my skin. My doctor took me off of it right away. But do not let that worry you. Everyone can respond differently to medications and Seroquel may help you, like it did for Pledge. My daughter was on it along with Zanax and she adjusted two both meds just fine. She says that Zanax is the only medication that controls her anxiety. She does worry that it is addicting though. She tried to go off of Zanax and had a panic attack. She was in bad shape until she started back on it. As far as how long Seroquel takes for you to feel any effects, it depends. I know that my daughter started feeling better in about a week. It may take people 2-4 weeks like Pledge had mentioned. Well, I hope I helped in some way. By the way, I am a tea lover also! I do not like coffee. I wish you the best! Sweetie Pie
