Hi everyone. My gastro has put me on hyoscyamine 0.325, twice a day, every 12 hrs. Is anyone taking this, if so, are you having side effects? I am taking it for my IBS-D. Thanks

Hi lindylou1, I am on Levsin/SL the brand name for Hyoscyamine. I have done great on it. The main side effect is feeling kind of dry and wanting to have something to drink alot. If you drink plenty of fluids that should take care of that but other than that I haven't noticed any other side effects. I take it every 4 hours though so you might not get as dried out as me, I also take a higher dose too. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me, no more spasms, pain or even as much diarrhea. Good luck and let me know how it works for you, marjorie zych

Wikipedia has a lot of good info about Hyoscyamine. You should look it up:
This drug antagonizes serotonin, like Amitriptyline (Elavil). So don't take too much, if you like your brain.
I had IBS-D for about 20 yrs. I have been symptom free for 9 months now. And I no longer take any medicine/drug. But I have to take the following Vitamins, or the IBS comes back.
E 400 I.U. (100% Daily Value)
D3 400 I.U. (100% Daily Value)
B6 100 mg (5000% Daily Value)
B12 5000 mcg (~8330% Daily Value)
Also, sometimes I would drink a beer or 2 on weekends.
Now I drink 0 (none) alcoholic beverages.
Hi redfrog. Thank you for your interest. WOW, it must have taken you a while to come up with that combination! I quit drinking about 10 yrs. ago, so thats not a problem. How did you come up with that combo? Ive been doing the trial and error for several years. Everything seems to work for a short while, then back to the usual. Well, thanks again, I appreciate your input! Linda
Last year I read an articles about a new study of vitamin D3 importance for the immune system. Also noticed that FDA increased the minimum daily value from 200 IU to 400 IU. At about the same time, I read some articles about how Vitamin B6 was being used to treat depression, certain inflammations, and Celiac disease. So I went to the store & bought D3, B6, B12, & E. I did not noticed that the B6 and B12 were "vegetarian potency" (for people who don't eat meat). Two months later, when I noticed I had gone 2 months without IBS attacks, I carefully read the labels on the vitamin bottles, and that's when I noticed I had been taking 10000% Daily value of B6, and 16,660% Daily value of B12. I then lowered the dosages of B6 & B12 by 1/2, and continued taking them. So it was "Serendipity" or "divine intervention", not trial and error. By the way, one form of B6 has been banned for sale by the FDA, because it will be sold as a prescription drug by a pharmaceutical co.

Hi marjorie, Thankyou so much for your help. I actually tried the sublinguals for prevention, but they only seem to work during an episode. They do stop the cramps for the most part in 15 to 20 mins. Im still taking the 0.325 tabs, and so far they seem to work pretty well. They also added prednisone to the mix. most people dont like prednisone, but i have always had luck with it.
The dry mouth does get bad sometimes. I bought some mouth spray called Biotene, and it works great. If you havent tried it, think about it. It is otc, and not expensive. Hope to hear from you again, and hope e1 is having a pain free day!! Thanks, Linda
