... DVT and PE in July/Early August. I'm 25 years old and have no prior health issues, so this year has been very hard to say the least. I'm posting this to both groups because I want to know if anyone else out there has UC and has had blood clot(s). I just read the article that patients with UC have 2-3 times the risk of developing a clot after surgery. Before that, I didn't realize the two conditions could be related as my doctors never mentioned this link. Thanks

Hi
How do you mean after surjery. Do you wear a pouch? I too had no idea, i had a long thought about it but never have as of yet come to the conclusion that i will go for it. But that has scared me a little to tell the truth. My hospital consultants have never told me about this. Also all or shall i say most UC sites have not got that information at hand. I am 39 years of age and have had UC for 6 years now. I wish you good health my friend.

No, the article did not specify what type of surgery, and I'm pretty sure it was not referring to the pouch. I do not wear one - so far my UC has been completely manageable, but I know that can change in time. Any major surgery makes all people more prone to clots (Tennis star Serena Williams had them in her lungs after foot surgery). The article I read was saying that people with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases are even MORE at risk than the regular person which is pretty disconcerting. In any case, I was just trying to see if anyone else out there had heard about this and/or had suffered from DVT or PE like I have in addition to having UC. I wish you good health as well!
