Hi DC friends, Has anyone tried Topamax for Fibromyalgia, and Silenor for insomnia?

Good to see you! Yes, you covered the symptoms pretty well. Once it gets worse, some people have nerve pain, tis almost like a stinging sensation.
There are also "trigger points" or muscle knots, especially in shoulder muscles (deltoids?) or other areas. When I first was diagnosed about 10 years ago, it hurt to be touched at times! Hope you do not have fibro Dede!

I hate to tell you this but my first PM doc gave me topamax and I gained weight like crazy. I had not changed anything BUT the topomax, in 2 weeks I had gained 15 pounds. Sorry, but if I had waited to see if it worked for my nerve pain, I would have been a sumo! I don't lose weight easily and being on Lexapro, I am still fighting the weight... Sorry, but I thought I should be honest... good luck sweetpea

Hi! I have not taken Topomax but I am curious about the new sleep medication. I would like any info that you have. It sounds like you may have some arthritis. Low grade fever often with extreme fatigue and insomnia, achiness in morning, some brain fog, those were my first symptoms of fibro. First and only med, 25 mgs of amitriptyline at night. No side effects except thirsty at night while I slept, brought a drink to the bed each night.

Whoa, my doc said weight loss, not gain! I am NOT getting porky!
I am happy to be the guinea pig for both the sleep med and Topamax!
I shall report all the gory details as soon as I know something of importance.

Has anyone heard that Topamax can cause hair loss? I had a giant head of hair, so losing a bit won't kill me, dont wanna be a bald girl though! LOL

although Tiger is in OZ at the moment so i might be lucky number 16 or what number you reckon he is up to now ? he's a dirty dirty boy but i love his swing!

I shall be the guinea pig and let everyone know how this junk works! I met the pharmacuetical rep in docs waiting room, he was pushing the Silenor, he kind of sold me on it, not supposed to be addictive... (yeah, and Tramadol is harmless!) so I may have the ovaries to try it tonight!!! I shall report back with entirely too much detail about my nights sleep... ha

Sometimes when I am having a bad day, which seems to be happening alot lately I have to watch a funny movie or a "Raymond" or "Friends" marathon or invite one of my crazy ass friends over to make me laugh. Lara, You KNOW i never meant that anything like that should occur to anyone and certainly not YOU, I just thought it meant you might lost a few lbs., that is from not looking the drug up myself, just looking at posts, so my apologies to anyone suffering or that ever suffered from that disease, it is nothing to joke about. I am alittle confused about all the dialog but it sounds like everyone is looking out for everyone else! What a nice, special group of people we have. I am so happy for you that this drug helps you sleep. I am up now( 4:00 am) and have not slept yet. I usually go 2 days without sleep then I am so tired I am able to sleep some. I am taking Zoloft and Morphine. I am wondering if it a side effect from one of them. Anybody have any thoughts about this? I would appreciate your comments. Thanks, Sweetie Pie

I can give you a thought, for whatever it is worth; Depending on the amount of Morphine you are taking, it sometimes has the opposite effect of making people feel tired and instead keeps them going and unable to sleep, like speed, which almost any opiate can do if the dose is large enough and with the Zoloft, the combo may very well be doing just that. Best bet, check w/Dr., but that doesn't mean he/she will do anything to help you. They always seem to say, "oh, just give it time, it will change, or try to change the dosage." YOu know your own body better than anyone. IF you are not on a large dose of morphine and just started the Zoloft, I would wonder about that and possibly talk to Dr. about changing the Zoloft for another antidepressent that may help more w/anxiety and sleep. Good luck and don't think you are alone, alot of people experience the insomnia with the opiates. Good luck. Dede
