My mother's ophthalmologist put her on Valtrex indefinitely to suppress a possible shingles outbreak. She had a severe one 7 yrs ago that caused near blindness in one eye. She has had a cornea transplant 6 months ago and the doc says another shingles outbreak in the eye could cause her to lose the cornea. Valtrex forever? That worries me.

Has your doctor mentioned the herpes zoster vaccine? Valacyclovir is used to suppress recurrent herpes infections.
