The only think I can say is that it sucks that you have to go through this but I am glad that you are getting treatment because when I was doing my residency rounds I got to know a lot of patients who didn't get the proper care. It is important to understand hep c and don't let it rule you. That may be easier said than done but if you keep a positive attitude and you are sure to take proper measures to protect you and others then you will be okay. Hep C is miserable and if your doctor doesn't prescribe you pain medicine to help get you through then something is wrong. At the same time you are going to need to try to find other ways of coping with pain because the pain medicine will not always do the job. Please, if you are having any concerns with treatment or anything like that message me, I will try to get back to you as often as I can to maybe help get you through this challenging time. Good luck.

Hi Heather. Welcome! We're here to help you & give you support. :)
I don't have hepatitis but I'd like to comment on your concerns. If anyone requested pain medication for Hep C, there would be no way that the doctor would consider you an addict, especially if you don't have that sort of history. Please be open & honest with your doctor. You'll need to take your prescriptions as directed.
Heather, I'm glad that you've joined the Hepatitis C support group here at Drugs.com Also, if you type "Hepatitis C" into the search bar, you'll pull up related information.
New drugs are always being developed & tested. In fact, 2 new drugs for Hep C were just recently approved by the FDA. Hepastitis C affects 4 million Americans presently. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
I wish you all the best, Heather! We truly do care! Please keep us posted.
from Wendy :)
I do have a history of addiction but have been clean for over a year. I am just always nervous about asking about pain medication even when needed just because my doctor does know my history and I always think he will probably refuse me because of that.

Hello!
I've been through interferon treatment twice for hep c. Other than the "horror stories,"neither time did I experience the least bit of discomfort. There are many variables about this treatment: genotype, your sex, age, health, etc., so I can't say you'll have my same experience; however, the 2nd time took & I've been virus free 2 years. Moreover, a good friend had no problems, either.
I will say that, my doc would have provided whatever meds I would've needed, & I'm sure you'll be treated likewise. Go for it..it's better than dying a slow, painful death due to liver failure!

Thank you so much for your response. It may sound weird but it made me feel a lil better. I am just really nervous because I found out I had it in December and I know when I contracted it and whom from. It was in September last year. The reason I opted for treatment already is I am having serious problems. I have been hospitalized twice with liver failure, jaundice, and my liver enzymes where off the charts. I am constantly sick to my stomach, have heart burn, indigestion and constipation. i am also constantly tired. My dr tells me all these things are related to the hep c.I cannot imagine feeling any worse than I already do but he also told me i probably will. I am 31 years old and have a 14 year old and a six year old little girls and I want to live to raise them and see their children. That is why I am doing this. I just honostly, feel like my dr is gonna think, "oh she's an addict" and not want to prescribe any meds to treat the side effects. How should I approach that when the time comes?
Hi Heather,
I dont know alot about the treatment but i can say that we have a friend that has hep c and he left it untreated he is now on the liver transplant list and is in bad shape .So i would say its very important that you get the proper treatment regardless of the side effects because what he is going through i am sure is ALOT worse than the side effects. He has been in and out of the hospital with horrible sickness due to not getting treatment.I dont know if you read the bible but pslams 23 and psalms 91 are good and calming to help you through this. You will be in my prayers.I will pray you have no side effects of the medicine and that you are cured of hep c.May of the God of peace give you peace and comfort during this time of need.
God Bless
Sharon
