Has anyone taken Rituximab infusions for Chronic ITP?

While I haven't taken Rituximab myself there is growing evidence to show it may be effective for treating ITP.

I did the Rituxan series 1 1/2 years ago. It involved 4 IV infusions (once a week for 4 weeks). It lasted for a year and a half. Just recently platelets dropped to 58 so I'm starting Rituxan again tomorrow. I'm just not ready to do something as permanent as having my spleen removed.

I am a 45yr old female and have cronic itp. I was diagnosed 7yrs ago after a heavy period that lasted 19 days my blood test results revealed my platelets were 5. I have been on and off prednisone all this time. During the periods I was off steriods which lasted 18months I was on herbal remedies then platelets dropped again as low as 17. So started 20mgs prednisone and platelets climbed to 104. Managed to stay above 50 with a tappered down dose of 7.5mg of preds. Last year platelets started to not respond to prednisone so a spleenectomy was offered but I wanted to try something else as I saw that as a last resort. 6 weeks ago my platelets were 13 and Rituximab was offered of which I had once a week for 4 weeks, infusions. The first one I had a slight reaction of which they topped up my piriton then I was ok. Platelets rose to 19 then 26 after the second one. Then 96 after the third now im awaiting the results for the 4th... the only side effects was drowsy after each infusion.

did you have any side effects?? how old are you--- I just found out my 15 year old daugter has been diagnosed with itp--she's been on prednisone for 4 months while she just started taking plaquinel 2 months ago.. just received 3 injections of solumedrol now back on prednisone -trying to get her off this prednisone is a nightmare---
I'm 52 years old. I don't recall any side effects from the Rituxan - they were all from the Decadron and solumedrol they gave me at the same time as the Rituxan, and I can totally appreciate the horrors that go with steroid usage.
58 is ok... very safe. I would not have my spleen removed with that count. A second round of rituxin is a good choice as well. I had it on two separate treatment. the first put me in remission for 6 years; the second only 11 months. Now I've started N plate without much success so far. Can'r get my count out of the single digits
