We are considering putting my 12-year-old daughter on clomipramine for her ocd. She takes zoloft which helps with her panic but she still is getting stuck. The therapy plus the Zoloft has helped some but it still consumes her life. Should we try a different med 1st? Clomipramine works for her grandmother. I am concerned about long-term effects. She has barely begun puberty.
Has anyone taken clomipramine as a child?

Hello. This might be of help to you. I was living outside the states, years ago, was on it in my mid-twenties. The drug Anafranil, was, a hugh help in my ocd. I took it for just over three years. As most medications, they quickly become refractory, and I had to stop taking it. The side effects, that bothered me the most, were then a constant, was my mouth, constantly dry, always drinking water, and perspiring. Especially though the palms of my hands. Soaking wet at times. I suggest you give it a try. If the side effects outweight her feeling better, in regards to her ocd, then, try another drug. For her to find relief, from her ocd, she might just, if the side effects are not severe, unpleasant enough decide on her own to continue on clomipramine. Its worth a try? Yes, I'd say yes. very best to you and your daughter,
