Once I stopped taking it, I am back to constant pain, confusion, "noise", and fatigue. I'd rather have the swelling and little headache, but am not sure that's safe or advisable. Is there a similar med?
Has anyone had foot and leg swelling with cyproheptadine? I had to go off due to this. :-(?

Hey Sun2seek,
Not sure, from what you have said, why you are taking the cyproheptadine which is an antihistamine. Without knowing why you are taking this medication it is difficult to make any suggestions as to other medicines to try. Foot and leg swelling does not appear to be a common side effect of the cyproheptadine. For a list of other antihistamines please go to:
http://www.drugs.com/drug-class/antihistamines.html
You will note that cyproheptadine (Periactin) is on the list. Whether any of the other medications would be appropriate for your condition, please consult your doctor.
Best wishes,
Laurie

Thanks for your response Laurie. I am taking cyproheptadine in combination with many other meds in an attempt to manage chronic mixed headache syndrome. I've had a migraine type headache that has not gone away in 3 years. I cannot work because the pain and its side effects are so great. Over the years, doctors have tried a myriad of meds. Kadian gave me back some functionality, but still not enough to return to work. Cyproheptadine was the first med that showed promise. Due to the swelling I had to go back off it and the headaches have become significantly debilitating within days of stopping. Any help would be appreciated.
Hey Sun2seek,
I found a good article about the mixed headache syndrome and treatments. If you want to read it go to: http://www.headaches.org/education/Headache_Topic_Sheets/Coexisting_Migraine_and_Tension-Type_Headaches
They recommend a combo of meds to address the two types of headaches associated with this syndrome. Medicines recommended include antidepressants specifically of the tricyclic and MAOI category as well as muscle relaxants. They also recommend beta-blockers, calcium channel antagonists or NSAID's for the migraine aspect.
Don't know what all you have tried but might want to read the article and discuss these options with the doc.
