My daughter is 18 years old and has suffered for years with severe resistant depression. After many years of juggling meds, she finally feels better. She is on Prozac, buspar, and seroquil. She also has many problems with her period and her doctor wants to put her on a progesterone only birth control pill. I'm nervous about her taking this, because we don't want to upset her "feeling good". Has anyone had any good/bad depression with this form of birth control pill?
Has anyone felt more depressed on Jolivette (progesterone only) birth control pill?

Hi, sorry no one has answered your question yet, i've only just come across it. I also would be very wary about starting your daughter on the jolivette. It can cause depression, sometime severely. I understand how difficult it can be to find the right combination of meds to get depression and psychological issues under control, and to risk unbalancing this now is certainly something to worry about. I would strongly advise you to go back to her doctor to discuss your concerns. I don't know if this post has come too late? Maybe you could let us know how your daughter is getting on?

Dear Delila,
Thank you so much for answering my question. I told her gyno how persistent and debilitating her depression can be, and of my concerns. But, she feels strongly about getting her period under control as well. I think I'll bring this up at her next psychiatrist appt. See what they think
(She hasn't started the jolivette yet) I appreciate your input.
Ok good, i don't know your daughters complete medical history but i'm sure there is a different version of pill that would be suitable for her to control her periods. Has the doctor not suggested something like cilest or microgynon? I started on cilest when i was 13 because i had extremely heavy periods which left me anemic, and they worked brilliantly for me. I stayed on them until my late 20's. Just a suggestion, maybe something to ask about?
