3 months into taking this my husband started with his legs swelling and then terrible palpitations in the night when he would lay down to rest. This did not begin until after a few months of taking the medication. The dose was only 5 mg.

I was put on amlodipine 5mg. and after 1 month my BP did not go down. My Dr. doubled it to 10 mg and then came the swelling of my legs and feet. I also had the flushing as my legs would turn red from the knees down especially after standing on them for a while. The Dr. then put me on a water pill - one half at first and then full strength. I am still having the swelling and last night I had palpitations. I felt better before going on these drugs. Not an answer I know but just wanted to see if anyone else had these problems and how long should I let them go on?

Yes, I am aware of that. It was only 5mg. I found it odd to take 3 months for this to happen. It was the first B.P. medication that he has even been on. I called the doc immediately and the switched him to two others. triamterene (generic to dyazide) to take the swelling down and is also for angina. He also put him on atenolol which is a beta blocker. The swelling of the legs went down immediately but with all the ibuprofen he takes the dyazide doesnt seem to be a great choice in my opinion so now that the swelling is down he is only taking the atenolol. I need to purchase a blood pressure cuff and monitor it for myself. It was very high when he went on the calcium blocker. 159/95!!! yikes! He is 50 years old and very active and in great physical shape. Genetics is what it is, B.P. and cholesterol. *sigh*... very scary.
