My husband was on Chantix for 2 months. He did quit smoking cigarettes but continued to smoke his pipe once in a while. He was also Euphoric while on this drug. One week after stopping the Chantix he lost his job. Made a bad decision, was noticed driving erractically. He was also taking Ambien at the same time. Anybody else have this problem?

Hi! I'm terribly sorry about your husband's situation. And as far as your question goes..I'm on day 3 of Chantix and haven't noticed any rashes, however, going over a lot of reviews on here, it seems alot of people had that problem, along with backaches, which I don't have. But, I am also taking ambien (thnks to insomnia!) and I don't have any kind of reaction from both. Does (did) your husband take Cantix & Ambien @ same time (at nite)? I take the Chantix in morning (think it goes up 2 morn & nite later and Ambien at night. However, I noticed if I stayup instead of going right to bed after taking th Ambien, I feel kinda weird and in a "happy zone", and I get really hungry and my taste buds are extremely hightened. I also have very little recolection of it later. What I do remember, I feel extremely stupid for how I acted or what I did or what I said. So, anyway, maybe the Ambien is still in his system for a long period.

have your husband or someone watch that depression. I thought my husband was kidding when he talked about calling Kevorkian-and he wasn't. He still smokes his pipe occasionally-I took him off the Chantix-it affected him enough on his job-that he lost the job. He was euphoric at first then went straight down moodwise. He is diabetic and barely needed any insulin but wasn't eating right either. Too many chemicals in the mix. chantix is NOT for diabetics. I sure wish you good luck-I'm still smoking but I refuse to take Chantix-I've already seen what it can do.
Also-tell or inform your Dr. about the depression-it can be very dangerous to you-you(being depressed) really don't notice it that much but others around you do. those people (like a spouse) must be ready and willing to stop the Chantix after notifying the dr. They may have you gradually step down your dosage.
Thanks. And I actually have depression anyway, It's just normally under control with Paxil. It is possible it was just one of those days, but I and those around me, know to be on the lookout. My Mom especially knows when something's wrong and she tends to know when I'm just having bad day, or a lot of bad days. Guess it's that Mom instinct we Moms have! And for the record, I'm feeling pretty good right now. I'm just kinda tired, but I'm trying to say busy and occupied. Thnks for the communication.
