I've been told by the 'plastics' team not to use a variety of moisturisers on the scar, but to massage it with silicone gel twice daily. I've been doing this, but now someone else has told me to use high factor sun block on my face daily, i wasn't sure if anyone knew if this was OK? Anyone with scar experience?

Hi my friend! I think I would use sun block or the scar will be more promenant. It probably won't tan, so it would show more. When you are not in the sun use what the doctor tells you to would be my best suggestion. Hope it's getting better. We girls & our faces! Very important to look good isn't it? Love, Mary

HI Delila,I HAVE SCARS,and belive me keep the best sunblock on them. the scar tissue will get darker and darker way faster then the rest of your surrounding skin.do what your plastics team tells you,and keep a small bottle of high SPF sun blocker with you all the time. cause it get rubbed off more that you think.the number of SPF in your blocker lets you know how long it lasts in the sun. spf of 20 = 20 minutes of protection you get the idea... pete

Not sure how old your scar is. Has it reached the bleached stage or is it still red? My sister uses makeup over the sunscreen to blend the scar color to her skin color. Protect that scar as subzero says with sunscreen. It will easily damage and look worse and leave you open to melanoma developing.
