Hi there, I am wondering what your thoughts are about a 25yr old grand daughter being a 24/7 companion for a grandfather with Alzheimer's, this Alzheimer's is progressing rapidly. The grandfather is in an assisted living accomodation now but is awaiting placement into an appropriate facility. Thanks :)

stages, I think this is a wonderful girl she must really love him. I know it must be hard to watch her grandfather wilt away with the Alzheimer's but she must really love him and she will probably miss him terribly so it may be best for her to deal with it now and maybe that is what she is trying to do by making his time left the best she can. She does need to relize though she needs some time for her too but sometimes that is easier said than done when someone you love is in a bad spot in their life. Let her do what she needs to do to get through this and she will probably be much better off. Maybe when he gets to another facility that can handle this better she may finally take care of herself too, but for now I would let her be and just support her as best as you can in her descision. I will be praying for him and the family. God bless that young lady. marjorie zych
