You can reduce to one mg for 2 - 4 weeks, then reduce to 1/2 mg for 2 weeks, then go to 1/2 mg every other day for several weeks then stop. Your body will let you know when it is time to reduce at each step down. There is a member, pattishan61, who has a good taper schedule on her profile. I recommend it as she was able to quit without withdrawals. You can find her profile by searching her from your "friend's" page.

Dear Curiousand worried, please trust me on something, that the FEAR of tapering makes you have symptoms and makes them pretty intense. If you FEAR something, you become anxious and that is hard to get under control. Slow the taper down and walk for exercise if you are physically able. Walking produces endorphins, and those make you feel better mentally and physically, it sends a reboot signal to the crashed system in the brain and it helps you stabilize on a lower dose. If you are disabled, do NOT do the exercise but do ask your dr if there is some exercise you can do. I can't stress how much the walking helps. I sm NOT s health nut either. I smoke and live in the extreme south, along the gulf coast. I sweated like crazy nd had to make myself do it, but that is one of the cheat codes for getting off subs easier. It works. And if you read my profile story on my page, it gives some other tips I used. Good luck, patti
Thank you so much for all the support as I do not have anyone to go thru this with! I do psych myself up when it comes to tapering which in return makes it hard. I have read ur profile and am planning to go down 1Mg or at least a 1/2 of a mg beginning Monday, wish me luck! Thanks again and I'll keep u posted. :)

Hi Curious, I'm doing the same thing. I'm not as far along as you but on my way. Pattishan61's story is on here and it seems like a great plan and it's working for me. I'm at 5mg right now and have been for about 2 weeks. That's down from 8. I few days I took 6 instead because I listened to my head instead of my body. I'll be droping to 4 on 7-9-12, then to 3 about 3 weeks later then down to 2mg a month or so after that. As pattishan says, "Your body will tell you when you can drop. If I was you I'd drop to 1.5 mg. I don't know if you split the 2mg now or all in a dose. Maybe take 1mg in morning and .5 at night. After a few weeks maybe try to skip the .5mg every other day then completely to where your at 1 mg. Stay there about 3 weeks or so then go to .5. Stay there for a few weeks, and start skipping a day just like pattishan did until you can completely jump off.
Sonny,
First off, congrats on ur success so far! I on planning on dropping down tomorrow to 1.5. I always listen to my head when it comes to dropping but this time I am determined! I wish you luck and thank you for ur support :)
It's really hard not to listen to our heads! That's what gets me in most of my predicaments! I'm big on meetings of NA or AA. I've had some time in those rooms before. Once for about 5 1/2 years, another for 30 months. Life was amazing during those times. For whatever reason I choose a different way and to make a long story short, on 8mg of Suboxone! (How's hat for listening to your head! LOL) I'm back in the meetings again and tapering. For me it's important to do both. I hope your down to the 1.5 you planned to drop to. Like I said, pattishans61's way just makes so much sense. Taper at a slower rate, allow your head and body to adjust to the new dose and stepping off of .50 or .25 will be much easier. Good luck and keep up the good work. YOU CAN DO THIS!

curiousandworried - I'm on day 23 coming off 2mg after being on suboxone for approx 8 yrs. Here's my plan but I'm not sure the difference in detox between 8 yrs to 8 months on subx: (a) listen to your subx doctor, (b) don't work for the first week and second week if you can get away with it. (c) accept the fact you will sleep poorly, (d) exercise, hydrate, read books, (e) stay positive.
Back to (a) listen to your doc - I had/have help with valium and ambien for sleep. He also prescribed tramanul in the 2nd week. Good luck and stay positive
