Hi, I have been on paxil CR which worked wonders but stopped due to sex side effects and weight gain. Could NOT tolerate lexapro or prozac so my doc is now putting me on Buspar. I have GAD, OCD and panic. I am hoping this is my magic drug! What are some reviews you guys can give me? Any advice?

Hey scarjo,
Just wanted to share something about BuSpar. Taking it with food can affect its absorption by the body so you need to always take it with food or always take it without food but not alternate between the two. And try to take it at nearly the same times each day.
This is a very good medication for some. It should help with the panicky feelings and symptoms like pounding heart beat, dizziness and irritability that accompanies the anxiety.
I wish you much success with the new med,
Laurie

Hi Scarjo,
I have chronic anxiety of every type! After 10 years of benzodiazepenes my doc finally suggested BuSpar. I felt an immediate lowering of my baseline of anxiety. But I must say it hasn't taken all the anxiety away. It just sorta stopped. So I am also relying on Ativan but much less. Well hope everything works out.

I just got off of Buspar. It really didn't do much at all for me, but I know a lot of people have had wonderful results. Find the right med is a process, I am also in the middle of that process right now. It can be hard at moments, but hang in there! There are lot's of good medications out there. Just work with your Doctor, be aware of yourself and what your putting in your body, and you'll find what is right for you.
Here's hoping buspar is "the one"!! =)

Thank you Laurie! I hope it works well for me. I am just so frustrated and tired of taking Ativan as a crutch. It does the trick but its a bandaid, not a fixer. I started counseling too! I think next time I post it will be with good news! I am staying optimistic :-) thank your for help.
You attitude is fantastic and will make a big difference in your treatment. The counseling will make a big difference too. You have made my night with your positive news. Please keep me posted on your continued progress.

Hi Laurie, how are you? So, last night was my first dose of Buspar and well it went ok but not so hot. After being on it for an hour I had an increase in heart rate and it lasted several hours (90 beats per min resting), nothing too terrible. It did however prompt me to have to get out of bed and take an Ativan to go back to sleep. I literally am less than 1 in a 1000 who experiences this, FML! But, I contacted my doc and she wants me to take it during the afternoon and not close to bed time. Praying that this will be the answer. I feel fine today! I am just so super sensitive to certain meds and they work on me differently than the rest of the population. LUCKY ME! How are you doing?
Hey scarjo,
I'm doing great thank you. Hang in there and I think the fast heart rate will decrease with time. Give the med a few days to a week or so before you make your mind up about it. These type meds generally take several weeks before they reach their maximum effectiveness and the side effects take a week or so to subside.
Good luck and keep in touch,
Laurie
I took Buspar for just a short time but I agree with Laurie said as I remember I was not cautious about taking it with food, I took it as it was directed on the bottle, sometimes medications don't work like they should simply because they are not taken as they should be, I think your attitude will make all the difference in the world, just give it some time and give your body a chance to adjust, I also wish you the very best of luck!
