Hi Susan, I was diagnosed with a sliding hernia a small one, and acid reflux and put on lasnsoprozole four years ago, I have had bad problems with a nerve in my arm and shoulder and hand, depression aches and pains all the time like flu, terible pains around my shoulders and joints, constantly at doctors feeling like a real nuisance but this last year i have had severe sore throats, and a problem swallowing, i did not for one instant think it could be the lansoprozol as only an antacid, the doctor kept telling me it was tonsilitus or throat infection, got more and more depressed, tight feelings around sides of neck and chest, went for vascular blood tests which showed my cholestral levels had shot up since three years previous, and my blood pressure was so high they nearly did not let me out of surgery.

I was taking prilosec twice a day regardless of my diet. i eliminated citrus, tomato dairy spicy foods, I got a slant pillow for my bed as I usually had to sleep sitting up and nothing made a difference if I stopped the prilosec. I was recommended by my herbalist to start taking "Aloe Life"Herbal aloe "Stomach Plus Formula". I took it 3 times a day for 3 weeks and stopped the prilosec. I then tapered it off and only take it maybe once every two days. I sleep like a baby. No sore throats, endless burping, chest pain. it is really a miracle cure for me. It is a liquid, a little strange to taste but worth anything.I DO NOT work for this company!I am a retired 69 year old woman who was told by my medical doctor that due to my age it was something I would have to put up with for the rest of my life.I was concerned about the side effects of Prilosec and that was why I searched around for an alternative

I have been on various types of proton inhibitors for about 7-8 years now. I've been using Nexium for about 2 years at 40 to 80Mg a day and seldom have any reflux probs at all. However, I do try to eat smart and don't eat late suppers. I try to allow 3-4 hours after the evening meal before I go to bed. In addition to what meds you take try to watch what you eat, how much and when you eat. Zantac also helps me in the evening if needed. I also read about the possible side effects affecting bone density but have not experienced any bone loss since I've been taking the meds.

Hi Susan,
Omeprazole, Lansprazole, Nexium, Zantac, etc. no matter what we take, I do feel we will have to face the consequence of other problems arising from these medications. Some are of more help to us rather than a hindrance as in your case Susan, but we have to choose the lesser of the two evils. I do feel we need to work on avoiding these attacks and one major avoidance is LIFTING! Most of us have a hiatel hernia causing the acid reflux and when we lift andything heavy, it, of course, affects the hernia. The acid begins with these habits plus eating before we go to bed, eating fried foods, etc. so if we can avoid these habits, we can maybe avoid taking these meds that really have some bad side affects.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts,
Anne
