Generic Atacand (Candesartan) is already available in Europe from reliable generic drug manufacturers. It is NOT a counterfeit drug. How long do we have to wait to get this generic in the US since many insurance companies don't cover and we have to pay full price?
When will generic atacand will be available in the US now that it is off patent?

Hello,
The first patent for Atacand expired in October 2011, yet no generic versions are available. This suggests that later-expiring patents are still protecting the drug from generic competition. The next Atacand patent will expire in December 2012. This is the earliest date that a generic version of Atacand could become available.
Take care.-

"No generic versions are available" in the US, that is. I have to assume that the patent that has yet to expire does not apply to Europe.
If you are so skeptical, and do not believe in my answer, please, call the manufacturer and ask, here is their contact info:

Sorry - didn't mean to offend. I'm not at all skeptical about what you've said. I'm sure you're correct in that the patent preventing generic Atacand in the US expires in 12/12. However, in my hand is a box of Candesartan Cilexetil 16 mg made by Sandoz, purchased from a pharmacy in Europe last month. Therefore my assumption was that this patent (expiring in 12/12) doesn't apply in Europe. What other explanation could explain this?
