yes this is topically an antibiotic and also comes in the form of and IV antibiotic, just be sure that your doctor is aware that you are using this, I have had good results with this in the past, I hope this gives you an answer that is useful, take care and best wishes,

If this is for an eye infection be sure it is meant for ophthalmic use. Usually gentamycin for ophthalmic (or eye) use is in ointment form and it has to be specially processed to be used in the eye. A regular topical cream should NOT be used in the eye. If it is in fact, made for the eye, then you gently pull the lower lid down and gently squeeze a ribbon of ointment into the lower lid without touching the surface of the eye or eye lid with the tip of the tube. Blink a few times to disperse the ointment across the eye and gently remove the excess from the lid with a clean facial tissue. It is usually used 3-4 times daily for 5-7 days. It will blur your vision. If the medicine does not say it is specifically for use in the eye, dont use it in your eye. Call your ophthalmologist and have them look at your eye and prescribe the correct medicine. Hope that helps!
