Hi! Fentanyl is an opiate, similar to Morphine or Methadone. Fentanyl is used for long term, severe, chronic pain and is not for use in relieving temporary pain. It's also used when other opiates have failed to relieve pain. I just ended my use of Fentanyl 25mg/hr transdermal patches. First, they did not relieve the pain for my RSD. The patches fell off (and the insurance companies don't care-they will not refill your script.) They also caused me insomnia and itching ! If your doctor suggests, give it a try. All people have different tolerances and not everything works for everyone-Good Luck
