Ergocalciferol - Is it safe to open the 50,000IU caps to ingest?

What's the safest way? I haven't started taking them, I'm on one a week. I have incredible trouble swallowing pills, please help.

Would it be possible for you to chew it when you eat your food? If its in a softgel then you could destroy the contents.

Both tabs & or caps could be taken along with food.
