Suzanne is right. I just want to add that the epinephrine component controls bleeding to the area by constricting blood vessels and the lidocaine numbs the area. Epinephrine/Lidocaine is often used in dental procedures and procedures in vascular areas where bleeding can be more profuse therefore the epinephrine can help control the bleeding. There are a few areas where this medication cannot be used like the nose, fingers, toes, and penis as the epinephrine can constrict blood flow enough as to be dangerous to the area.
