... days prior to the procedure, and have been recieving the injections since the day after the procedure-3 weeks and 1 day ago. My coumadin was resumed 1 week after the procedure. I am having difficulty getting my INR back to an acceptable level-it is currently at 1.3. I have INR tested 2x week. My stomach is one big bruise line. How long should this go on? I am on the coumadin because of a previous stroke, due to Protein C Defiecincy. PJS

Unfortunately Coumadin is a very tricky drug to get adjusted. I have been on Coumadin for around 8 years and will be on it for life due to a Factor Five Leyden blood clotting disorder. I understand the 5 days coming off before the procedure, but why did they keep you off it for a week after? That to me doesn't make sense. Usually you immediately start back up the day of the procedure or at most the day after. Did you get the Enoxaparin (AKA Lovenox) injections during the week you were off the Coumadin or did they leave you off everything that week? Are you eating anything with Vitamin K in it? You should be climbing by now. How big of a dose of Coumadin do they have you on right now? I think you need to question your doctor about this also, I'm wondering if they got you on a high enough dose of Coumadin.

I did not get shots the 5 days before the colonoscopy. Initially, my PCP was going to manage the coumadin, but they did not include bridging and were too laid back about it all, so I went back to my hematologist. There were some communication glitches because of this, and I misunderstood the need to be on the coumadin. Luckily, one of the IV therapy nurses asked how much coumadin I was taking-but not until I had been doing all this for a week! I have been very good about no vitamin k-really miss my green veggies though! I went through this process once before when I had surgery, but it was done a little differently, and I forgot some of the details. IT took 2 weeks that time, so I guess I'm on schedule. Just had hoped it wouldn't take as long this time. Not only is it a "pain" in the belly, but also in the wallet. I really don't want to see the bill for this one! Thanks for your response. Helps to talk to someone with expereince! Good luck with your procedure-I will keep you in my thoughts. Paula
I am glad to hear you have a Hematologist. Maybe they can get things moving for you. I hope it is not to much longer before you are what they call therapeutic. It is dangerous for us people on Coumadin to have to many people playing with it. Good job about the Vitamin K vegies, I know you miss them but right now it is important to get your numbers where they belong so you are safer. If I can help in any way please feel free to let me know. I will also add you as a friend so if you need to talk about anything private feel free, o.k. Well good luck with the Coumadin my dear and let me know how you do. Thanks for thinking about me when you are not doing well yourself. marjorie zych
