Effexor for nerve pain?

Hello smittenkitten. Yes. Effexor is also perscribed off label for other uses than depression. It is perscribed for Fibromyalgia as well as several other diagnosis such as hot flashes, menopause being another example. Regards, pledge

I asked my doc the same question. He told me chronic pain is depressing, at least that's part of the situation. Its a SNRI, and Cymbalta is an SNRI. The difference being.g Effexor has a generic.
I wonder why he didn't add Neurontin? It is specifically used for nerve pain.
If you are not in pain management, ask for a referral. They are most qualified to help with your pain issues.

I take Effexor because of my depression, but I never heard of it being prescribed for nerve pain unless it can be taken to treat that too.

I started on Effexor a couple months ago for fibro, nerve pain, anxiety & depression & found it to work really good.

YES, anti-depressants, like Effexor also act as pain killers.

My headache specialist wanted me to go on a much higher dose of Effexor, specifically to treat my severe migraine pain.

Not that you don't also need something else to also treat your pain.
