Does patanol actually fight the eye infection? Or, does it just relieve symptoms?

Patanol eye drops contains an antihistamine. It is an anti-allergy eye drop.
It will not fight an infection. Instead it treats the symptoms, caused by histamine release, including itching, watery eyes, redness and burning.
