Nitrofurantoin is eliminated via the kidneys.
Around 30 to 40% is rapidly excreted unchanged. The macrocrystalline form is excreted more slowly compared to the microcrystalline form . NItrofurantoin may accumulate to toxic levels in patients with impaired renal (kidney) function.
