My 18 yeaar old daughter took cyclessa from febuary 28 till may 17th the day she died from it. she had been on orthro tri cyclen lo dose for over a year and we never had a problem took her to the local health dept and they gave her cyclessa no one bother to tell us that because her bmi was greater than 30 that it put her right at the top oof the list to develop one or all the symptoms that being on birth control can cause because had we received proper counseling or given the patient information package we could have made an informed decision it took her death for me to look this pill up some say its great others say not so . I was just wondering how many other woman out there are suffering as a result of taking cyclessa

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your daughter. I dont think there is anything worse for a parent! Did your daughter have any health problems other than being obese? Generally obesity is not a contraindication to the pill unless she had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or any underlying heart problems along with being overweight. The risks for even an overweight girl are generally low as long as she is healthy otherwise. Any pill can be a risk if a girl has high blood pressure or heart problems. Smoking can increase chances of problems but usually nore so after a woman is over 35. I've read the patient information insert and there are no warnings for overweight women unless they have the underlying health problems like the high blood pressure, diabetes or heart problems. If she did have those health issues the increased risk would be there for any hormonal birth control pill and could have happened even on the Ortho Tri-Cyclen.
