babyr0423Hello Friends, This is Ruth. I have a new email address. Have missed you guys. I have been down in my back and have felt awful. Has anyone experienced Opana ER wearing off before time of taking it again. I am on 40mg and take it twice a day and it wears off and if I take it sooner I can't sleep due to pain. If I don't take it sooner I am in alot of pain. The doctor won't let me take it three times a day until my appointment and I have just been miserable. Sorry about the typing. Arthritus in my hands is bad tonight. Love to all. Ruth

Hi Ruth - I just sent an answer to your pq but since this is a totally different question thought I would comment here too. I have never taken Opana but 40mg is a really high dose. How long have you been on it? Is it helping except for the wearing off part? Also, since it is a long-acting med I would think they would give you break-through meds instead of increasing to 3x a day. I'm no expert just my experience. Let me know sweetie.

Terri, you stole my answer! I was wondering about a breakthru med also. Most people on Opana ER get a breakthru med just in case. Hopefully they will give her a new script for every eight hours, but I would still ask for something for breakthru pain... Mary632009
Hey Terri, I think the problem is I was on Opana IR for breakthrough, and when I was at the doc. last I told him I had some Vicoden and he said to just take them for breakthrough, that it was about the same. NO. I can definately tell a difference. I have had bad back issues since 2003. They won't due surgery yet because I am a "high risk" patient due to elavated triglyserides and cholesterol. Until they can get them at a normal level they don't want to do anything. Thank goodness i have an app. Mon. and will get back on the IR's. That seemed to help. And if I take my zanaflex regularly I can keep my muscle spasm's down. Just hate to take so many meds. Have to take meds for Fibro. and OA. in both of my knees. Not whining. There are people who have it alot worse than I. Glad to have you guys to share with though. Your a doll. Ruth.

I am late on responding to your post I have been very sick. I have been on the Opana ER 40mg 3times a day with percs 10mg up to 3times a day and I have the same problems now. I didn't for several months. Now not only does the pain increase but horrible withdraw in between times to take them. I told the nurse practioner(new to my issues) about the yucking feelings and experiences and she offered me a new med. Thank God and years of experience I refused. I have found out the meds she offered were not even close to equal with the Opana. I am not sure why she would attempt to lower my meds when I just told her I was having these issues??? I have never abused my meds I have more then plenty physical issues n I have never had a dirty drug test yet she offended me when I said my body became tolerant after year plus of exact same meds. Opana's are no joke. In a big way I wish I had never accepted them.

Yes they help more then any others but the dr didnt have to move me up so quick. Not till after I had taken them for 6 months did I find out how bad I would feel if I didn't take them at the exact same time n how quick our body build tolerance. 3 days after taking Opana our body needs them. I am going through hell right now not only is the pain getting worse between doeses these horrible withdraws I have NEVER EVER had to experience is causing me all kinds of problems. I am not sure what the answer is. I wish I knew. If someone does please please help!

I do hate that you are having problems too. I don't know the answer. I know different people have better luck than other's on different pain medicine's. So I have heard. I am no expert for sure. The only reccommendation I can make to you is another medication if you're having this much trouble. But you said they were wanting to lower you're pain medicine if you changed, and were not listening to you. You may need to try and find another pain dr. who will listen to you better and put you on something that will help you're pain and not make you feel miserable like this. I will for sure keep you in my prayer's and keep in touch with how things work out for you. I wish I could be of more help. I'm kinda in the same boat you are in. I'm just not having very good luck with the Opana... and I know it's suppose to be a good drug. Anyway's take care. And the best of luck to you. Ruth.
Sorry so late n thank you all for responses I had my grand-kids move in full time n oh boy... you can imagine right. I do have breakthrough meds (oxycodone 10mg 3x a day) along with muscle relaxers, topamax but I believe I have been taking them so long tolerance has built there also. Miserable! I never wanted to take meds n put them off for years... n years.. but couldn't take it any longer. As soon as I started pain management I promised myself not to take more then absolutely had to n to take precautions not to strong meds. Now it's almost 3 years later n I have reached the max amount n now my tolerance grows I feel hopeless. I do not want to live this way. I am so sick of being sick n so sick of hurting not just hurting terrible pain n I am sick of not being able to care for my family etc. I m sick! ugg I m sorry. Tired n don't feel well lots of pain no sleep too much to do makes me crazy. I have been on Opana for about 1 1/2 years give or take.

n yes they help there is a negative side to them but I have never had anything help me get relief with my neck and they have came the closest to helping my back but I have never had anything take the pain all the way away. . I do take them 3 times a day. Its an hour plus in between that is causing me problems.

A pq is where you can ask a person a private question. You click on their Avator. That is their picture. When you click on their picture you will see where it says ask private question. You can click on that and ask someon a question that only you and the person can see. I am sorry you are having a hard time. I ended up getting off the Opana ER. I found something that helps me better. Its a newer drug called Nucynta ER. I only have to take it twice daily and it works really really well for me. I do hope you get to feeling better soon.
