I just went through this with my insurance company and the pharmacy. Viokase was the only generic for pancrelipase and it has been discontinued. I have been searching for coupons for all the other brands without any luck. Does anyone know if the over the counter enzymes are effective for steatorrea caused by chronic pancreatits? I will be asking my doctor if I can take the over the counter enzymes at the same time as the prescription to stretch out it for more than a month.
