I had to discontinue Diovan HCT because of constipation and it also exacerbated my dystonia ( a neurological condition which causes weakness in my right leg). I was actually walking somewhat comfortably, then the bottom fell out. One day, I'm fine, and the next, I can barely take a step. This medication made it worse. When I went to the doctor, I was informed that my recent lab work showed that my blood glucose level was slightly elevated. I freaked out!!! Granted, Diabetes runs in my family, but I am careful of what I eat, and never heard a hint of elevated glucose levels, up to my last blood work a little over 6 months ago. I'm convinced it is the medication. My doctor disagrees about that and the muscle weakness. What a crock. She thinks because she didn't see anything on the CDC, that's all of the side effects associated with the medication. It would behoove her to surf the web and see what people are experiencing, instead of listening to some group of academics who think they know it all. I don't need the complication of diabetes, high blood pressure and dystonia. I'm having more blood work done in about 3-6 months to see if it goes back to normal. So far, my doctor placed me on Chlorthalidone (water pill) but at a higher dosage because I was taking the mininum at the time my pressure went out of control. If it spikes from time to time I can supplement it with a 1mg Colondine. Can't take that regularly because it gives me awful headaches, but the occasional pill is ok. The doctor is hoping this can control my HBP because the highest it gets is 146/100 or perhaps 150 and then I get nauseous and dizzy. Hypertension isn't a silent killer for me. I have symptons LONG before it gets anywhere near 200. I must admit that the diovan hct controlled it rather well.
