I understand that comtan cannot be crushed. But what about dissolving it in applesauce or some other substance? Is this OK to do? My friend has trouble swallowing and cannot swallow the pills. She has developed more thick mucous here lately, and with some research, I observed some other people had the same problem with dissolving the med, but no answers on if this is safe? Help!?

I would have thought it would be fine to crush the tablet immediately before consumption as it only has a film coating not a special slow release coating.
For an informed answer I would contact the drug company directly. I would be interested in hearing what they suggest.

thanks for your answer! I am planning on calling early in the morning! I'll leave comment on what they say!!!
ok I contacted the company about comtan. They stated that they haven't studied it being dissolved so they can't recommend dissolving the med. Although they did say the reason that it cannot be crushed is that it stains the teeth, mouth, and saliva. No news on if it can cause increased mucous.
Thanks!
