Diltiazem has a mild-to-moderate negative inotropic effect on the heart ie. it can lead to a small decrease in myocardial contractility (reduced pumping ability)
It should be used in caution with CHF patients.
I assume your dad is seeing a cardiologist who has recommended these medications. They will be aware of the need for caution. You should discuss your concerns and ask for reassurance .
