Dietary Supplementation - I recently found out my vitamin d level is low. Have since started taking?

... 1000 iu daily. Just had bone density test and am boarderlevel.Dr. recommends 500mg daily with calcium.should this be over and above the 1000mg a day?

i just had the same test today. it showed i have osteopina, and they said to increase the vit d 2 times a day, 1000 mg. by my research, 500 cal is way too little..after age 40, we should be on at least 1500 or more..please research.
