Your doctor is doing the right thing. More than one sort of insulin can be used during (a short or rapid acting and a long acting). It just depends on your blood glucose readings before breakfast and post meal times.
Metoformin is a FDA pregnancy category B. It is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby, so that can be used as well.
The aim of treating diabetes during pregnancy is to keep you blood sugars relatively constant with small peaks, otherwise it may be harmful to the baby.

I found out what was wrong today. The nurse finally called me back and after a 35 minute conversation she realized that her nurse had called in novolin N and humulin N. Not the novolin R that I was supposed to get. That's been the whole problem all along. Thanks for the reply.
You know that it is common for pregnant women to get Type 2 diabetes, and most generally it returns back to normal, (Search... Earth Clinic.com for more info)... unless you start taking a whole pile of junk medications, especially Statin drugs, some nasty permanent side effects. Also have you bothered to research statins and their adverse side effects, and do yourself a favor ... just because the FDA says its safe... don't take that as proof, most of those drugs were rubber stamped by the FDA to facilitate their arrival in the marketplace for Big Pharmaceuticals, if you search for the testing studies done... what you will find is maybe a handful of favorable test subjects, certainly not enough to prove they are safe... You realize that sugar, as is common white table salt both poison... right... there is nothing in it that the body can use...
