Dexamethasone and hydrocortisone both belong to the class of drugs called corticosteroids. Corticosteroids are used to provide relief for inflammation in the body - they lessen swelling, redness, itching, and allergic reactions. They are often used as part of the treatment for a number of different diseases, such as severe allergies or skin problems, asthma, or arthritis.
Dexamethasone and hydrocortisone are both similar. They are both for:
*inflammatory conditions
*antiemetic, in cancer chemotherapy
*Immunosuppressant therapy
Dexamethasone is also used as a diagnostic aid for Cushing's syndrome and endogenous depression.
Dexamethasone is the more potent of the two (need less dexamethasone for the same effect).
